We take you to the edge of Scandinavia, to a remote corner of Finland, deep inside the Arctic Circle. Here you can enjoy a world of remarkable natural beauty, living traces of a Sami culture that has survived since prehistory, and countless winter activities in the arctic wilderness. Simply Arctic is our entry-level offering, where you’ve got the complete flexibility to do as much or as little on your winter break as you choose. We’ve put together a complete programme of optional excursions and you’re free to book as many or as few as you like.
Simply Arctic package is trimmed down, giving you a value-for-money basis on which to visit the Arctic Circle in the Northern Lights season of the snowy winter months.
Your Simply Arctic break starts with a flight to Kiruna in Sweden, followed by a two-hour transfer to the small border town of Karesuando, where you will stay at the hotel of your choice on a half-board basis, followed by a return transfer to Kiruna and flight home.
Your package will also include the hire of thermal suits and boots, to keep you warm in the Arctic cold.
You can choose to spend your time just exploring around your hotel and admiring the snowscapes that spread out towards the wilderness. Or you can browse through our exciting range of optional excursions and decide which you would like to add to your Simply Arctic break. For example, you might choose to take a Northern Lights Snowmobile Safari in the hope that you might get to see one of Nature's most extraordinary spectacles, which is often visible in these parts at this time of year
Or perhaps you would like to try the wonderfully healthy pastime of cross-country skiing. All the necessary equipment is available to hire and there are groomed cross-country ski tracks nearby for you to explore. Our guides can also provide you with tuition, should you need some help mastering the art.
Simply Arctic is the no-frills way to sample the thrills of a winter break deep inside the Arctic Circle, where you will breathe in the cleanest air in the world.
Transfers to and from the airport
A thermal suit and boots
This exciting new excursion gives you the opportunity to sail - and swim! - through the frozen bay of Bothnia. Having crunched the ice in its path, the ice breaker ship halts, allowing you time to don a dry suit and float in the Arctic sea.
Fell Viewpoint Snowmobile Safari
A snowmobile tour to a breathtaking vantage point on one of the local fells, with far-reaching views. Based on two adults sharing a snowmobile. **
Not many people can say they have spent the night in an igloo, in the heart of the Arctic wilderness. But that is the extraordinary experience you can enjoy (or brave!) during your Arctic Spirit break. Inside, the igloo is surprisingly warm and cosy. The ice bed has a snow surround, covered with warm reindeer hides. We will provide you with an Arctic sleeping bag. Candlelight lends the whole experience a romantic and special atmosphere. And don’t worry, there is the back-up of a warm room, just in case you feel the chill!
Cross-Country Ski School and Tour
The Davvi Arctic Lodge is a great choice for cross country skiing. There are long wilderness trails, some groomed and illuminated, with one located next to the hotel. You will receive ample tuition before trying a short skiing trip. It’s not as complicated as it looks and great fun too. Guiding and equipment included. On completion of this tour, Ski hire is available for £20 per person.
Sámi Museum and Snow Castle
The small Sámi museum at Hetta (about 50mins drive) provides a fascinating insight into the culture and traditions of the Sámi people. The ice castle, reconstructed every year, features a number of rooms with ornate ice carvings.
Ice Fishing by Snowmobile
This is a great trip for all the family. Travelling by snowmobile along a small stretch of the 200km Victoria Route, inaugurated by Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, you arrive at a frozen lake where you can try traditional ice-fishing. Once you have drilled a hole in the ice, you may even catch your lunch. **
Northern Lights Husky Safari
Take a magical evening safari on a sledge pulled by a team of dogs. You will travel across frozen lakes and through silent forests and hopefully you will glimpse the beautiful Northern Lights evolving overhead (of course, this cannot be guaranteed).
Enjoy a visit to the world-famous Ice Hotel, a building carved entirely from the ice of the nearby River Torne. Here you can marvel at the chiselled, chilly interior, handcrafted anew each winter.
The ultimate experience for true romantics. Your night-time snowmobile ride will take you to your private kota (Sami tent), where a warming fire will await. The champagne is on ice, and the chocolate fondue is ready to enjoy as the Arctic night unfolds around you…
