Luosto is home to Europe’s only Amethyst mine which can be found at the top of Lampivaara Hill, just outside Luosto and close to the main highway linking Luosto with Pyhä. The Amethyst mine is one of the few gem mines in the world that allows visitors to dig for their own semi-precious stones.
